M6 Formats’ reality competition The Brain is heading into its first international adaptation, with Portuguese broadcaster TVI producing a local version of the format for Prime Video Portugal. The 12-episode production is already underway through SeeMyDreams Productions and is expected to launch after the summer. The deal marks the first time an M6 Formats IP has been licensed to Prime Video.
Created by Studio 89 for W9, The Brain brings familiar reality TV personalities back to university, where they put their intellectual abilities to the test in a competition to become Reality’s Biggest Brain. The format launched on W9 with an average audience of 0.5 million viewers, delivering a 6% share among 25–49-year-olds and 9% among viewers aged 25–34.
The first season became W9’s most successful new daily reality show in years, while the second season grew its audience across all key demographics, including a 27% increase among viewers aged 4+ and a 10% rise among Women under 50.
“I am grateful to TVI for believing in this format from the very beginning and for working hard to bring it to air so quickly through an innovative digital-first approach.” said Dimitri Gélineau, Sales Manager at M6 Formats.
“This fun and thrilling strategy game brings together what our audience need, and we’re committed to deliver a great show thanks to a unique cast.” said Piethein Bakker, at SMD Productions.
Following its Portuguese deal, The Brain is currently under option in more than five European territories.
