A new Ibero-American cooperation network for screenwriting, Atlántica Guion, has been officially launched during the Cali Screenwriting Week (Semana del Guion de Cali), bringing together leading script development labs from Spain, Colombia and Brazil. The initiative connects IsLABentura Canarias (Spain), Algo en Común (Colombia) and Histórias Que Viajam (Brazil), with the aim of strengthening collaboration across territories and boosting the international circulation of new screenplays.
In the coming months, Atlántica Guion will roll out a programme of virtual meetings between Ibero-American screenwriters, designed to encourage knowledge exchange, discuss shared industry challenges, identify new collaboration opportunities and develop the first online training workshops, which will be announced via its official channels. A key objective of the network is to promote co-production from the earliest stages of development, fostering creative collaboration and supporting stories with international potential.
María José Manso, director of IsLABentura Canarias, said: “The alliance is born from the conviction that shared and networked work is, today, the only real way to ensure that projects reach their highest level of excellence and competitiveness in the global market.”
Andrés Felipe Muñoz Anduquia, director of the Algo en Común Foundation, stated: “We understand that our cultures are no longer peripheral, but the centre of a new narrative map.” He also recalled that Ibero-America is one of the largest linguistic and cultural regions in the world.
Roberta Miller, creator of Histórias que Viajam, highlighted that one in twelve people in the world is Ibero-American. She said: “We are more than 600 million people. That is the scale of the reach of our stories. Integration between actors in the creative chain driven by Atlántica will ensure that more projects developed for this audience — meaning more productions capable of building bridges between different cultures — reach the market.”
