TV 2 Denmark and Miso Film, a Fremantle company, have greenlit the premium crime thriller “Side Effects” (Fristelsen), headlined by award-winning actress Josephine Park (“The Ox”).
The six-part series follows Denmark’s elite crime unit as it investigates the murder of a dockland security guard and the disappearance of a large shipment of pills containing a lethal opioid. As synthetic drugs spread rapidly through the streets and more victims suffer devastating side effects, Chief Investigator Nora Søby (Park) and her team race against time to dismantle the criminal network behind the operation before further lives are lost.
Written by Lasse Kyed Rasmussen (“Those Who Kill”) and directed by Jonas Alexander Arnby (“The Uniform”), “Side Effects” blends high-stakes investigation with strong personal drama, delivering a contemporary Nordic Noir rooted in urgent social realities.
Sara Askelöf, Senior Executive Producer at TV 2, said: “Side Effects’ is a crime series rooted in a reality we can no longer ignore. It addresses drug-related crime and addiction as an urgent societal issue. ‘Side Effects’ combines a realistic investigation with strong personal stakes, and aims to engage viewers not only through suspense, but through relevance. I look forward to bringing this timely and ambitious series to our audience.”
Jonas Allen, CEO and Producer at Miso Film, added: “’Side Effects’ is a high-end, Nordic Noir crime-thriller depicting the national special crime unit’s systematic and tireless investigation of organized drug-related crime. ‘Side Effects’ uncovers the massive impact of drugs in society on many levels, and the series is both realistic, highly relevant and suspenseful.”
Produced for TV 2 Denmark by Jonas Allen and Peter Bose of Miso Film (“The Investigation”), the series is supported by the Danish Film Institute’s Public Service Pool. Principal photography is set to begin in spring 2026, with Fremantle handling international sales.
