France tv distribution has announced the sale of the animated feature The Violinist to French distributor New Story, further strengthening the film’s rollout in the domestic market. Directed by Ervin Han and Raúl García and internationally distributed by France tv distribution, the film was awarded the Cristal for Best Feature Film at the 2026 Annecy Festival, along with the SACEM Prize for Best Original Score for a Feature Film.
The Violinist is a sweeping historical animated drama spanning 80 years, following two childhood friends whose lives are reshaped by war, love and the enduring power of music. The story unfolds across decades, beginning in 1930s Singapore, where Fei and Kai share an extraordinary musical talent and dreams of international performance. As war and the Japanese occupation disrupt their lives, Kai joins the resistance and entrusts his violin to Fei before disappearing. Over time, Fei becomes a celebrated violinist, but her success is marked by loss and the unresolved memory of her childhood friend. The narrative is framed in the present day, as a Spanish journalist investigates the mystery of an aging violin legend and the instrument tied to her past.

Written by Ervin Han and Jordan K. See, the film features music direction by Ricky Ho and Isabel Latorre. It is produced by Ervin Han (Robot Playground Media, Singapore), Paloma Mora (TV ON Producciones, Spain) and Cristiano Bortone (Altri Occhi, Italy), with support from multiple international institutions including the Singapore Film Commission, ICAA, IVC, RTVE, À Punt Media, Afin SGR, MiC, Regione Lazio and the Red Sea Film Fund.
The project also includes collaborations with Bombillo Amarillo, Mystic House Animation, Little Green White, 27 SKIES and Throne Inc.
