Diane Morgan to develop scripted projects for BBC Studios
BBC Studios has agreed to partner with BAFTA nominated actor, writer and director Diane Morgan to develop, co-produce and distribute new scripted projects. The annoucement was made during the BBC annual showcase in London on Monday, February 28, 2023.

The deal will see BBC Studios work together with Diane Morgan to create her own slate of brilliantly funny scripted comedies, co-produced through BBC Studios’ production portfolio, with BBC Studios also representing and distributing globally.
Actor, writer and comedian Diane Morgan is probably best known for her incarnation of professional dim-wit ‘Philomena Cunk’. The popularity of the character saw the BBC commission two specials and two full series, Cunk on Britain and more recently Cunk on Earth, which is now also streaming globally on Netflix. Diane created, writes, directs and stars in popular comedy narrative Mandy, produced by BBC Studios and Witchcraft Industries, now on its third series. Diane plays the regular role of Liz in critically acclaimed and BAFTA winning comedy series Motherland (BBC) and starred as Kath in Ricky Gervais’ hit comedy After Life (Netflix). Other credits also include the regular role of Fiona in Frayed (Sky/HBO Max), Inside no.9 (BBC) and Netflix comedy specials Death to 2020 and Death to 2021 alongside Samuel L. Jackson, Hugh Grant and Lisa Kudrow. Diane was the recipient of the Variety Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2022 Edinburgh TV Awards and won the award for Outstanding Supporting Role at this year’s National Comedy Awards.
Jonathan Blyth, Commercial & Partnerships Director for Comedy at BBC Studios said: “We are delighted to be building on our terrific relationship with Diane. She is one of the most distinctive comedic voices in the country today and we are looking forward to being part of her future success.”
Diane Morgan said “Last week I won a comedy award and someone on the internet made a pancake with my face on it. I thought it couldn’t get any better - but it just has! Thanks BBC Studios!”
The deal was brokered by Carly Peters and Maureen Vincent at United Agents Ltd, Jonathan Blyth at BBC Studios, and James Kay at Sheridans.
