Rai 1 is set to premiere Livatino – Il giudice e i suoi assassini, a new two-part miniseries directed by Michele Placido, on Monday, November 9 and Tuesday, November 10 at 9:30 pm. The drama is a co-production between Rai Fiction, Goldenart Production and Rai Com.
Set in Sicily during the late 1980s, the series follows the parallel lives of magistrate Rosario Livatino and a group of young members of the Stidda criminal organisation, who are drawn into organised crime as a way to escape poverty. While Livatino challenges the mafia by targeting its financial interests, assets and territorial influence, the young criminals gradually expand their power across the province of Agrigento. Their opposing paths eventually converge on September 21, 1990, when Livatino is murdered by a Stidda hit squad.
Written by Angelo Pasquini, Fidel Signorile and Michele Placido, the miniseries focuses on the final two years of Livatino’s life, from 1988 to 1990, exploring both his commitment to justice and the deep connection between his professional mission and personal faith.
Giuseppe De Domenico portrays Rosario Livatino, whose courage and dedication made him a symbol of Italy’s fight against organised crime. In 2021, Livatino became the first magistrate in history to be beatified by the Catholic Church.
The production was previewed at the Rome Film Festival, in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic.
Livatino – Il giudice e i suoi assassini will also be available on RaiPlay and in 4K on Rai 4K, channel 210 of the free satellite platform Tivùsat.
