Starlings' Sherlock & Daughter Secures Global Sales Ahead of UK Debut
Starlings has secured a new wave of international deals for the first season of Sherlock & Daughter, ahead of its UK and Ireland premiere on HBO Max on November 5. The eight-part detective drama will roll out weekly through December 24, following strong performances in the US, Australia and the Nordic territories. The series initially launched on The CW and HBO Max in the US in June 2025, reaching the top four of the streamer's in-app Top 10 chart during its first week and becoming the network's highest-rated show. It also holds a 91% audience score and a 75% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes. In Australia, the series recorded strong results on SBS, while its Nordic distribution includes NRK in Norway, SVT in Sweden, DR in Denmark, YLE in Finland, RUV in Iceland and Amediateka in the CIS.

Further international sales include AB1 in France, Tivibu in Turkey, Disney in Bulgaria and the Balkans, RTP in Portugal, Viasat in Poland, RTS in Switzerland, Sky in Italy, Crave/Bell in Canada, Magenta TV in Germany, Streamz in Belgium, Nova in Greece, Canal+ in Austria and Switzerland, YES in Israel and Ceska TV in the Czech Republic. Palatin Media handles exclusive sales in Germany, Austria and German-speaking Europe, while Federation Studios manages international distribution rights in other territories.

Created, written and executive produced by Brendan Foley, Sherlock & Daughter stars David Thewlis as Sherlock Holmes, Blu Hunt as Amelia Rojas, a young Native American woman who believes the legendary detective is her father, and Dougray Scott as Professor Moriarty. James Duff serves as showrunner, alongside writer Shelly Goldstein and writer and consultant Micah War Dog Wright. “It’s an honor to bring a show that has become such an international hit home to HBO Max in the UK and Ireland - both the home of its setting and where it was made in Dublin and London by a fantastic cast and crew, led by mighty performances from David Thewlis, Dougray Scott and Blu Hunt,” said Foley. “In these bumpy times, we’re very proud it has appealed so widely across generations worldwide, from new younger followers to veteran fans of the world’s greatest detective.”
Starlings CEO Karine Martin added: “Sherlock Holmes may belong to London but it took a global audience to make this homecoming truly extraordinary. We’re thrilled to bring Sherlock & Daughter back to the streets that inspired the legend – and to give viewers throughout the UK and Ireland a fresh mystery to call their own.”

Produced by Starlings' UK affiliate Albion Television and co-production partner StoryFirst, with financing from Krempelwood and MBM3, the series follows Holmes as he investigates a case that appears beyond his reach. Unable to pursue the investigation without putting his closest friends at risk, he joins forces with Amelia Rojas after the mysterious murder of her mother. Together, they attempt to solve the case and establish whether Amelia is indeed Sherlock Holmes' daughter.
