Hat Trick International (HTI) has secured early international sales for The Real Wolf of Wall Street, with the BBC in the UK and Stan in Australia acquiring the three-part docuseries following its successful launch at MIPCOM. Produced by Maxine Productions, a Sony Pictures Television company, Bloomberg and See It Now Studios for Paramount+ in the US, the series premiered on the streaming platform earlier this year. HTI presented the title to international buyers at MIPCOM, generating early interest and securing the first licensing agreements.
The docuseries revisits the real story behind Jordan Belfort and his brokerage firm Stratton Oakmont, whose rise to notoriety inspired the iconic Paramount Pictures film The Wolf of Wall Street. While the Hollywood production portrayed the excesses of 1990s Wall Street, the series explores a darker and more complex account of the events and their aftermath.
Sarah Tong, Director of Sales at Hat Trick International, said: “We all love a great behind-the-scenes story, and The Wolf of Wall Street was such a huge cultural hit that we think we all feel we know this story. But this series gives us something completely different: the real people who were there, telling us for the first time what actually happened. It’s every bit as fascinating, outrageous and compelling as the movie - and we’re already seeing strong interest from buyers who know there’s much more to this story than the film could ever reveal.”
