Mexico Showcases Audiovisual Industry at Iberseries & Platino Industria 2026
Mexico brought more than 160 industry professionals to the sixth edition of Iberseries & Platino Industria, held at Matadero Madrid from September 29 to October 2, with a strong presence across co-production, financing, training and content development activities. Designated Country in Focus through an initiative led by EGEDA México, the country used the event to showcase its audiovisual production capabilities, technical infrastructure and talent, while fostering connections and business opportunities with international partners.
One of the key sessions was Producing in Mexico Is Great: New Conditions for Competing, featuring Mónica Lozano of Alebrije Cine y Video, José Miguel Álvarez of EFD Studios México, Guillermo Saldaña of Comisión de Filmaciones de la Ciudad de México and Andrea Bilbatúa of New Art Group. The discussion examined Mexico’s production infrastructure, locations, professional talent and administrative support, as well as financing models, industry coordination and regulatory frameworks. Participants also addressed the upcoming review of new tax incentives in Mexico City and opportunities to strengthen collaboration between Mexico and Spain.

Mexico also featured prominently in the market’s professional project selection. Of the 84 projects presented in the Platforms and Production Companies Pitch sessions, 31 had Mexican participation. Three projects involving Mexico were selected for the Co-production and Financing Forum: series Allegados and Historias de espías, and feature film Vuelve siempre, Sebastiana. The Showrunner Training Workshop included Acá en el cielo, a Mexico-Spain project presented by producer Concepción Taboada Fernández. The training programme also featured Thinking Like a Producer: Creative Business Strategy, a workshop created and led by Mexican producer Leonardo Zimbrón of 3Pas Studios, with the first session featuring contributions from Mexican consultant and producer Raymundo Díaz-González Bocanegra. Five Mexican series and feature film projects were selected for the workshop: Antes de la cena, La funeraria, Los delitos invisibles, Peso muerto and Remedio. Three additional projects involved international partnerships: Aroma de Casablanca (Mexico-Colombia), Inocente (Peru-Mexico) and La tarotista (Mexico-Spain).

Networking and business opportunities

Mexico also had its own pavilion at Plaza Matadero, inaugurated by EGEDA México president Gonzalo Elvira and managing director Pablo Bianchi, alongside Iberseries & Platino Industria co-director Juan Alía, New Art Group CEO Andrea Bilbatúa and Platino Industria general coordinator Adriana Castillo. The pavilion served as a meeting point for Mexican companies, institutions and industry professionals. The Country in Focus programme also included a networking session featuring EGEDA México, CFilma and Sin Sentido Films, as well as a matchmaking session that brought together 40 professionals with representatives from CFilma, New Art Group, EFD Studios, IMCINE and Talipot Studio. The meetings highlighted opportunities related to production incentives, filming locations, technical services and co-production, including Mexico’s new Film and Audiovisual Production Tax Incentive (EFICA).

Mexican professionals also featured across the event’s conference programme. Director Katina Medina Mora discussed her international career in the keynote Directing Without Borders: From Mexican Independent Cinema to Global Series, in conversation with Infinity Hill CEO Axel Kuschevatzky. Other Mexican executives and creatives participating in sessions included Mónica Lozano (Alebrije Cine y Video), Camila Misas (Amazon MGM Studios), Clo Fernández (Telemundo Studios), Javier Williams (3Pas Studios and Visceral), Santiago García (Ítaca Films), showrunner Sebastián Sariñana, copyright lawyers Eduardo de la Parra and Rafael Rodríguez Andrade, Carlos Quintanilla (Sony Pictures), Ana Bracho and Geraldine Orta (Amazon MGM Studios), and Jorge Tijerina (HBO Max).

The Iberscreenings programme included a gala screening of Amores perros, directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu and presented by associate producer Mónica Lozano. The screening was made possible through Estudio México and MUBI. Meanwhile, Iberscreenings Próximamente presented Cómo ver una serie con los ojos cerrados, an audiovisual adaptation proposal based on the podcast Las vidas de Marilú. Silvia Viñas, Patricio Wills and Juancho Cardona discussed the project and the potential for co-production between Mexico and Spain.
