S4C’s children’s brands Cyw and Stwnsh are gaining dedicated spaces on BBC iPlayer, making Welsh-language programming more visible to audiences across the UK. The content will be featured as individual categories within the children’s section of the BBC iPlayer homepage, alongside the BBC’s own children’s programming. The dedicated spaces will give Cyw and Stwnsh a presence on the platform similar to that of CBeebies and CBBC. The move builds on the availability of S4C’s children’s content on Cyw Tiwb, S4C Clic and YouTube Kids, further expanding its reach on one of the UK’s most popular streaming platforms.
The new offering includes a range of programming for the autumn half-term break. A new series of Deian a Loli will be released as a box set, alongside series 1–5. Other titles available through Cyw include Bendibwmbwls, Blŵi, Caban Jam Gareth, Ger a Gu, Howie and Pum Munud o Lonydd. Stwnsh’s line-up features Mabinogiogi, Aberfan: Arwyr ein Cwm, Newyddion Ni and Tekkers, alongside animated series such as HE-MAN a Meistri’r Bydysawd, LEGO® DREAMZzz and Y Smyrffs.
Sioned Geraint, S4C’s Children and Learners Commissioner, said: “It’s wonderful to be able to invite more children than ever before to enjoy Cyw and Stwnsh content across a variety of platforms. The fact that S4C’s children’s content is now available on iPlayer across the United Kingdom means that more children and families will be able to enjoy content in the Welsh language.”
Geraint Evans, S4C’s Chief Executive, added: “Increasing the visibility of our content is a priority for us at S4C, and ensuring Welsh-language series are prominently featured on the iPlayer children’s profiles is a key step as we continue to grow our audiences. Our new partnership with BBC iPlayer has already driven remarkable growth in viewing figures for S4C content, with a 25% increase in monthly users this year. We hope this latest development will lead to a similar increase in the popularity of our children’s service.”
