Banijay’s Marco Bassetti Unveils Growth Strategy and New Leadership

Banijay’s Marco Bassetti Unveils Growth Strategy and New Leadership
One of the most anticipated sessions of MIA's opening day was the fireside chat between Marco Bassetti and producer Marco Chimenz, during which the Banijay Entertainment CEO reflected on the group's evolution into a global production powerhouse. Bassetti explained how a strategy built on acquisitions and diversification has progressively transformed Banijay from an unscripted entertainment specialist into a major international player across television, scripted production and live experiences.

Global franchises such as Big Brother, MasterChef, Survivor and The Traitors remain at the heart of its entertainment business, while scripted production has become increasingly important, particularly through partnerships with international streaming platforms.

One of the key themes of the conversation highlighted by our correspondent in Rome, Tommaso Muffato, was the importance of intellectual property ownership. Bassetti stressed that retaining rights is essential for producers to build sustainable businesses and generate long-term value, particularly in an industry increasingly shaped by global streaming platforms.

Diversification is another pillar of Banijay's strategy. The group's expansion into live entertainment through Balich Wonder Studio and the acquisition of LOTCHI, creator of the immersive Luminiscence experiences staged in iconic churches and cathedrals, reflects its ambition to extend storytelling beyond traditional screens.

Looking ahead, Bassetti also expressed interest in strengthening Banijay's presence in the United States, particularly in scripted production. Although no specific acquisition plans were disclosed, the American market remains an important potential area for growth.
