The Marsupilamis Swings Into The U.S. With Nickelodeon Debut
Media-Participations’ animation studios Ellipse Animation and Belvision are expanding the international rollout of The Marsupilamis, with the 52x11’ animated series making its U.S. debut on Nick Jr. on October 19. The launch follows Nickelodeon’s initial global acquisition of the series and its rollout across multiple territories, supported by local partners including M6/Gulli in France, RTBF and VRT in Belgium, RTS in Switzerland and Radio-Canada.
The North American launch comes amid growing interest in the European property, created more than 70 years ago by Belgian author André Franquin. The character’s popularity in the U.S. and Canada was recently reinforced by Abrams’ publication of a comic book volume inspired by the animated series.

Known for its distinctive spotted fur, eight-meter-long tail and signature Hoobah language, Marsupilami has appeared in numerous television, film and video game adaptations, becoming one of the most recognizable characters in comic book history. In the new series, the Marsupilamis leave the Palombian jungle for the city, where twins Jade and Mica are entrusted with three mysterious eggs by their explorer parents. When the eggs hatch, the siblings must find ways to keep the energetic creatures hidden from a world unaware of their existence, while staying alert to potential predators. The series is directed by Célestine Plays (Grizzy and the Lemmings), with Andrew Barnett Jones and Ciaran Murtagh (The Amazing World of Gumball) serving as head writers. Guilhem Deckers (Minions 2) oversees artistic direction. Mediatoon Distribution and Mediatoon Licensing, both part of Média-Participations, handle international sales and consumer products.

Caroline Duvochel, head of audiovisual and innovation at Média-Participations and managing director of Ellipse Animation, said: “We are thrilled to see The Marsupilamis continue its global rollout with its arrival in the U.S. This important milestone confirms our belief that these iconic characters can resonate with children and families all around the world. We thank the Nickelodeon team for thei trust, enthusiasm, and commitment to bringing our series to international audiences.”
