BBC Studios announced plans at MIPCOM Cannes to strengthen its European scripted production business through new development investment and international expertise, alongside the launch of a new digital quiz format, The Quiz Vault.

As part of its strategy to develop original IP across Europe, BBC Studios Global Productions has established a central scripted development fund to support new projects, secure literary rights and build relationships with writers and creative talent.

Experienced drama producer Ben Donald will support the initiative, helping identify and develop premium local-language scripted projects and international co-production opportunities across BBC Studios' European production network.

With over 20 years of television experience, Donald previously worked on productions including Death in Paradise, Parade’s End, Wolf Hall and Good Omens. He will continue to run his production company, Cosmopolitan Pictures, alongside his new role.

BBC Studios also unveiled The Quiz Vault, a new entertainment format produced by Strong Watch Studios and hosted by comedian and digital creator Max Fosh. Set to launch in early 2027 on BBC Studios' new Quiz and Trivia YouTube channel, the series will see celebrity guests compete in fast-paced quiz challenges, with different games introduced in each round.

The channel will also feature content from established BBC quiz brands, including The Weakest Link, A Question of Sport, Impossible, This Is My House and Answer Run.
