Nippon TV’s international drama hit Woman -My Life for My Children- is heading to Greece, where Alpha TV will launch a local adaptation titled Mia Gyneka (A Woman) on October 7. The series will also be available on Alpha TV’s HbbTV platform. The Greek adaptation marks the continuation of Nippon TV’s collaboration with Alpha TV, following the broadcaster’s successful remake of the Japanese drama Mother, titled Na me les mama (Call me mom).
Produced by Greece’s Filmiki, Na me les mama was the first Nippon TV scripted format to be adapted in Greece. The eight-episode series averaged a 20.0% audience share among total viewers and 17.3% among adults aged 18–54, ranking No. 1 in its timeslot in both demographics. Its October 23, 2025 finale reached a 21.8% share among total viewers and 18.8% among adults aged 18–54, with an average audience of 880,000 viewers.
Mia Gyneka is based on Woman -My Life for My Children-, created by the team behind Mother, with Cannes Film Festival award winner Yuji Sakamoto as script writer and Hisashi Tsugiya from Nippon TV as producer. The drama follows a single mother determined to protect her children while facing economic hardship, exploring family, poverty and parental love.
"Following the success of the Greek adaptation of Mother, we are delighted to continue our collaboration with Alpha TV on Woman -My Life for My Children-. While Mother and Woman both tell powerful stories centered on women, they explore female strength from very different perspectives. Woman is a moving portrayal of dignity and a mother's determination to protect her family in the face of hardship. Alpha TV has assembled an outstanding creative team, and we are excited to see how they will bring their own unique vision to this story for Greek audiences," said Sally Yamamoto, Scripted Format Sales & Licensing at Nippon TV.
"Great television is driven by characters who refuse to give up. Nippon TV has delivered a deeply affecting narrative anchored by a fiercely strong, multidimensional female lead. At Alpha, our focus was to take this brilliant foundation and organically weave it into our culture. By grounding her everyday struggles and undeniable resilience in a distinctly Greek context, we are introducing a character we know will immediately and profoundly resonate with our prime-time viewers," Christos Kompos, Program Director at Alpha TV, added.
The Woman format has previously been adapted in other international markets. The Turkish version, Kadin, produced by Medyapim in 2017, ran for three seasons and 81 episodes and was distributed in more than 60 countries. In 2025, Medyapim also produced the Arabic adaptation Salma, which premiered on MBC1 and Shahid.
