Taiwan is making a strong international push at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, with three films selected for the official programme, two projects featured in TIFF: The Market and three titles launching their North American awards-season campaigns. Running from September 10–20, TIFF is holding the inaugural edition of its dedicated film marketplace, TIFF: The Market. Among Taiwan’s official selections are Happily Ever After, the Taiwan-Malaysia co-production The Age of Goodbyes, and the Taiwan-Japan co-production Arrested Memory.
In TIFF: The Market, the VR work The Clouds Are Two Thousand Meters Up has been selected for the Innovation Hub, while Argus Inside has been chosen for the International Financing & Project Market (IFPM), making it the only Asian project on this year’s slate.

Taiwan is also using the festival to build momentum around its awards contenders in North America. A Foggy Tale, Taiwan’s submission for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards, joins Golden Horse winners Praying Mantis, named Best Animated Short, and Fragments of Herstory, winner of Best Documentary Short.

The official selection showcases a mix of genres, international partnerships and established talent. Director Feng-I Fiona Roan, who previously directed American Girl, returns with Happily Ever After, following two sisters as they confront old emotional wounds. The film will have its world premiere in the Special Presentations section. Also in Special Presentations is The Age of Goodbyes, directed by Malaysian filmmaker Edmund Yeo and adapted from Li Zi Shu's novel of the same name. The Taiwan-Malaysia co-production, starring Vivian Sung, tells a love story spanning decades and will also have its world premiere at TIFF. Meanwhile, Arrested Memory, directed by Japanese filmmaker SABU and starring Ethan Juan, will make its North American premiere in Midnight Madness. The Taiwan-Japan co-production follows a detective dealing with memory loss while becoming involved in a kidnapping case.

Taiwan’s presence extends into the market section, with Singing Chen’s VR work The Clouds Are Two Thousand Meters Up selected for the Innovation Hub. The Taiwan-Germany co-production is adapted from a short story by novelist Wu Ming-Yi. Argus Inside, centered on the global semiconductor industry, has been selected for the International Financing & Project Market. According to the supplied information, it is the only Asian project selected this year. The festival also provides a platform for Taiwan’s awards-season campaign. Chen Yu-Hsun’s A Foggy Tale is the country’s official submission for Best International Feature Film at the 99th Academy Awards, while Hsu Hui-Ju’s Fragments of Herstory won Best Documentary Short at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards. Joe Hsieh’s Praying Mantis, which won Best Animated Short at the same ceremony, was also the first Taiwanese animated work selected for the Venice Film Festival’s Orizzonti competition.

TAICCA will host a special screening of A Foggy Tale and Fragments of Herstory at the festival as part of efforts to expand their visibility in the North American market. Taiwan’s delegation is also part of TIFF’s broader industry expansion. With TIFF upgrading its industry programme into TIFF: The Market, TAICCA is bringing Taiwanese companies to the festival in person to strengthen connections between the country’s content industry and international markets.
Adding another Taiwanese presence to the festival, Sylvia Chang has been invited to serve on the jury of the Platform programme. Chang previously attended TIFF in 2024 with Daughter's Daughter as producer and lead actress, earning an Honourable Mention for her performance. Her return as a juror further highlights Taiwan’s presence within the festival’s international industry and creative community.
