RTS Opens Entries for Student Television Awards 2027
The Royal Television Society (RTS) has opened submissions for the RTS Student Television Awards 2027, with entries being accepted until Friday 6 November 2026. The awards celebrate the next generation of television talent across the UK and Ireland, offering students from colleges, universities and other higher education institutions the opportunity to showcase their creativity to leading industry professionals.
A total of 14 awards are open for submissions across seven categories, with dedicated Undergraduate and Postgraduate awards in each area. The categories include Animation, Entertainment and Comedy Drama, Drama, Factual (Short Form), Factual (Long Form), Journalism, and Saving Our Planet. Judges will also have the opportunity to present Craft Skills Awards at their discretion, recognising outstanding achievements in Camerawork, Editing, Production Design, Sound and Writing.

The RTS is encouraging submissions that demonstrate ambition, originality and creativity, while also reflecting the diversity of the television industry and wider society. Rhuanedd Richards, BBC’s Nations Director (Interim), will return as Chair of the RTS Student Television Awards 2027, after previously leading the 2026 edition. She said: “The RTS Student Television Awards have a proud tradition of uncovering and championing the storytellers of tomorrow – finding individuals with the passion, vision and talent to shape the future of video production, filmmaking, and television journalism. These awards offer more than recognition; they open the door to possibility ensuring creativity and ambition are celebrated by leading industry voices. I’d like to extend my very best wishes to everyone preparing to submit an entry - what an exciting moment to share your work and your voice. I look forward with real anticipation to celebrating the imagination, passion, and creativity of this remarkable new generation of talent.”

When assessing entries, judges will take into account differences between productions, including available budgets and production timelines. Eligible films must have begun production after 1 September 2025 and been completed by 31 October 2026. The winners of the RTS Student Television Awards 2027 will be announced at a ceremony in June 2027 at the IET, Savoy Place, in London.
