ITV has commenced the production on Adultery, a new six-part drama created and written by BAFTA-winning writer Danny Brocklehurst. Produced by Ben Stephenson’s Poison Pen Studios, part of ITV Studios, the series is being filmed in and around Manchester and will air on ITV and STV, with streaming availability on ITVX and STV Player.
The cast is led by Dominic Cooper and Romola Garai, with Shelley Conn and Matthew McNulty also starring. Cooper and Garai portray Tom Kirkman and Beth Brookes, two characters drawn into an intense and emotionally complex relationship that begins to disrupt their respective families. The ensemble also includes Johnny Sanpher and Leila Khan as teenage couple Jess Kirkman and Ollie Brookes, alongside Andrew Knott as Dave, James Murray as Paul Kirkman, and Charley Webb as Leah Kirkman.
“It's a wonderful privilege to assemble such an amazing cast for Adultery. The characters in our show have complex emotional lives and we needed the very best acting talent to bring them to the screen. I couldn't be more thrilled,” said Danny Brocklehurst.
“I am thrilled that we have assembled such a high calibre cast for Danny’s wonderful scripts. Dominic and Romola are two remarkable actors at the peak of their careers and it’s hugely exciting to see what they bring to this juicy gripping and complex show alongside their amazing co leads Matthew and Shelley,” added Ben Stephenson.
Adultery (6x60) is created and written by Danny Brocklehurst, with Will Sinclair directing episodes 1–3 and Daniel O’Hara directing episodes 4–6. Sarah Lewis serves as series producer, with executive production from Poison Pen Studios and ITV. The series is produced in association with ITV Studios, which will handle international distribution. The narrative explores themes of desire, guilt, family dynamics and the consequences of social media exposure, interweaving two parallel love stories: a forbidden adult affair and an all-consuming teenage romance that unexpectedly connects both families.
