Dynamic Television has renewed Danish crime drama The Sommerdahl Murders for an eighth season. The Nordic noir series, based on Anna Grue’s bestselling novels, is co-produced by Dynamic Television, ZDF, ndF, Sequoia Global Alliance and Danish broadcaster TV2. Production on the new season began earlier this month, with the latest installment scheduled to premiere in 2027.
Set in the coastal town of Helsingør, the series combines murder investigations with the personal relationships surrounding Detective Chief Inspector Dan Sommerdahl, played by Peter Mygind. Laura Drasbæk returns as Marianne, Dan’s ex-wife, while André Babikian reprises his role as Detective Superintendent Flemming Torp. Season eight will feature four new murder cases unfolding across settings that include a kitesurfing camp and a Norse paganism community. The upcoming season will also continue exploring the central love triangle between Dan, Marianne and Flemming after Dan admits to mistakenly kissing his ex-wife.
“Reaching an eighth season is a testament to the enduring appeal of The Sommerdahl Murders,” said Daniel March and Klaus Zimmermann, Managing Partners at Dynamic Television. “The series has consistently delivered a winning combination of complex cases and character-driven storytelling season after season, and we look forward to bringing audiences another compelling chapter.”
The Sommerdahl Murders is created by Lolita Bellstar, who also serves as head writer alongside Christine Exner and Jonna Bolin-Cullberg. The series is produced by Danish company Sequoia Global Alliance.
