ITV has released first-look images from upcoming six-part thriller The Dark, starring Laura Donnelly and Mark Rowley. The drama will launch this summer on ITV, STV, ITVX and STV Player. Adapted from GR Halliday’s debut novel From the Shadows by Matt Hartley, the series is produced by Poison Pen Studios, part of ITV Studios.
The images introduce DI Monica Kennedy, played by Laura Donnelly, as she investigates a string of murders across the Scottish countryside alongside her new partner DC Connor Crawford, portrayed by Mark Rowley. The first-look material also features Helen Baxendale as Bethany Morgan, a mother devastated by a case connected to her missing son, as well as a glimpse of the masked serial killer at the center of the story. The Dark follows Monica Kennedy after the body of a young man is discovered staged in the remote Scottish wilderness, triggering fears that a serial killer is targeting the rural community. As paranoia spreads, long-hidden secrets begin to emerge, while Monica becomes locked in a dangerous cat-and-mouse pursuit with the murderer. At the same time, her own past threatens to undermine both the investigation and her family life.
Ben Stephenson, Preethi Mavahalli, Luke Woellhaf and Fern McCauley executive produce alongside Matt Hartley. Matt Brown serves as producer, with Lena Rae and Nessah Muthy writing the series and Gilles Bannier attached as lead director and executive producer. The Dark is produced in association with ITV Studios, which will handle international distribution.
