OPTO SIC’S newest release, Azul, which premiered last April 24 exclusively on the Portuguese streaming platform, has already in less than one month secured its first international sale and will soon be captivating audiences in Macao.
Set in a dystopian future one year after the last whale sighting on the planet, it follows the story of Olívia, a young girl with Down syndrome, as she joins a group of activists in a final attempt to determine whether this species can still be saved.
Created by Pedro Varela and produced by Blanche Films in a co-production with Iceland, the six-episode series stands out not only for its timely environmental narrative but also for its inclusive storytelling, offering a fresh and emotional lens on resilience, hope, and the fight for a sustainable future.
As SIC and OPTO continue to expand their original content slate, this milestone further underscores their shared commitment to delivering high-quality, globally relevant programming. This agreement with Macau signals the beginning of “Azul’s” global rollout and reinforces the global appeal of Portuguese storytelling not only through this title but also with added content from SIC reaching the territory. The Portuguese speaking community in Macao will also soon have the chance to screen some factual series and documentaries.
