Sky has acquired exclusive UK and Ireland rights to the new Baywatch reboot following a deal with Fremantle, with the series set to premiere on Sky and streaming service NOW in 2027. Co-produced by FOX Entertainment and Fremantle, the reimagined action drama revives one of television’s most recognisable franchises with a new 12-episode first season featuring a fresh cast of lifeguards patrolling the beaches of Southern California. FOX Entertainment Global retains domestic distribution rights, while Fremantle manages international sales.
Originally debuting in 1989, Baywatch became one of the most watched television series worldwide, airing in more than 200 countries and reaching over one billion viewers weekly at its peak. The original series starred David Hasselhoff and helped launch the careers of stars including Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, Jason Momoa and Yasmine Bleeth. The reboot aims to modernise the franchise for contemporary audiences while maintaining the signature elements that defined the original series, including high-stakes rescues, interpersonal drama and beachside action.
The cast includes Stephen Amell as Hobie Buchannon, alongside Jessica Belkin, Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck and Brooks Nader. Original cast members David Chokachi and Erika Eleniak will reprise their roles as Cody Madison and Shauni McClain respectively, while Livvy Dunne joins in a recurring role.
Lucy Criddle, Director of Acquisitions & Strategic Projects at Sky, said: “Baywatch is one of the most iconic television franchises of all time, and this bold new reimagining will deliver the sun, sea and high-stakes drama audiences know and love, while introducing a dynamic new cast for a new generation of fans. We’re thrilled to partner with Fremantle and couldn’t be more excited to bring the series exclusively to Sky audiences across the UK and Ireland.”
Jamie Lynn, EVP Co-Production & Distribution EMEA at Fremantle, added: “Baywatch is one of the most iconic and globally recognised brands in television, and the excitement surrounding the series reflects its enduring appeal. It has an instantly familiar feel while still being made for today’s audiences, offering something for both loyal and new fans. It delivers the sun-soaked drama and signature energy people love, on an even bigger scale.”
