On Sunday, May 17, Rai 1 will air in primetime Lapponia I Love iù, the Italian title of the international TV movie A Midnight Sun Affair, directed by Ken-Are Bongo and starring Erasmo Genzini, Nicolò Galasso, Gennaro Lucci and Sissi Jomppanen. The movie, an Italian/Finnish coproduction (1x100') also available as a series of 4x25', is distributed by Maria Kivinen Head of Norsekeydistribution, who recentely presented it at the Gotemberg Film Festival.
Blending romantic comedy, road movie elements and Nordic atmospheres, the film takes viewers on a journey from the vibrant streets of Naples to the breathtaking landscapes of Finnish Lapland. The story begins far from the Arctic, in the chaotic heart of Naples. Carmine, played by Erasmo Genzini, is a small-time hustler with charm but little direction. His life changes unexpectedly when he inherits a cabin in Finnish Lapland from his late brother Salvatore. There is one condition attached to the inheritance: he must live there for two months before claiming ownership.
Together with his friends, Carmine heads north to Sápmi, the cultural region of the Sámi people, where everything feels unfamiliar — the silence, the freezing temperatures, the people and their way of life. Waiting for him there is Sunna, Salvatore’s partner, who refuses to believe that his death was accidental.
Things become even more complicated when Carmine falls for Maren Elle, a young reindeer herder played by Sissi Jomppanen. Love was never part of his plan, but in the far North nothing seems to go according to expectations.
