Sipur Studios has revealed a partnership with FOX Entertainment Studios and Fulwell Entertainment to co-produce the upcoming documentary "Blood Brothers". The project is helmed by acclaimed filmmaker Yariv Mozer, known for the award-winning documentary on the October 7 Nova music festival, "We Will Dance Again."
The documentary centers on the remarkable journey of Saeid Mollaei, an Iranian judoka and Olympic medalist who risked his life by defying government mandates to compete against his Israeli counterpart, Sagi Muki. Despite facing extreme political threats from the Iranian regime, the two world champions formed a forbidden bond that highlights themes of bravery, sportsmanship, and the pursuit of Olympic success.
The production is a collaboration between Sipur Studios ("Bad Boy"), FOX Entertainment Studios, and Bitachon365—a Fulwell Entertainment subsidiary ("The Kardashians"). The project was developed by Mozer and executive producer Steve Stark ("The Handmaid's Tale"), with the Israeli broadcaster Reshet 13 also attached.
Emilio Schenker, CEO of Sipur Studios, spoke highly of the project: “'Blood Brothers' originated from an extraordinary friendship between two courageous athletes who dared to break through walls of fear, ideology, and hatred in a reality where regimes and borders try to dictate who is an enemy and who is a friend. Especially now, as tensions between Israel, the U.S., and Iran reach a peak, the friendship between Saeid and Sagi reminds us of the power of an individual to stand bravely against a regime, even at the risk of his life, and to create light and hope amid chaos," he noted.
Reflecting on his experience, Saeid Mollaei added: “My birthplace, my personal story, the history of my country, and the education I received all seemed to dictate a different destiny. I was expected to follow a certain path. Yet I chose to step out of line, because above all I am an athlete—a free man guided by deep human values, a man who could not accept a road imposed upon him. In judo, we say that friendship is the purest of human feelings. Beyond sporting rivalry, Sagi and I are building something that many once believed impossible, and that is more important than ever now given what is happening," he stated.
Sagi Muki also shared his perspective on the bond: “As an athlete, I always strove to be the best in the world, reaching the highest peaks as a world and Olympic champion. But when I saw the reality forced upon Saeid, I realized that a true champion is measured first by their character and the courage of their path. I knew I couldn't remain silent; I felt a responsibility to be his voice, and through him, the voice of all Iranians suffering under this reality. We have formed a bond of true brotherhood—we value each other first as human beings, and only then as world champions. Today, as we speak together on global stages, I am proud that 'Blood Brothers' will share our message of unity and acceptance. In a time of war, our story shows that sports can bridge divides between communities and nations, and that the ultimate victory is not a medal, but the choice to embrace brotherhood and humanity," he expressed.
