Atresmedia continues to strengthen its digital and scripted strategy through both new content launches and international recognition, with atresplayer announcing the return of its vertical micro-drama A Girlfriend for the Holidays and celebrating a major award win for Mariliendre (Fag Hag).
The second season of A Girlfriend for the Holidays will premiere globally on June 25, marking the next chapter of the vertical drama format that has become one of Atresmedia’s key innovation areas. The series follows the success of its first season, originally released as A Girlfriend for Christmas, which surpassed 20 million views across the platform and social media. Marina Baeza and Carla Flila return to reprise their roles as Sofía and Marina. The new season expands the story across 55 episodes, all of which will be released simultaneously on launch day.
Shifting the narrative from a winter to a summer setting, the series maintains its fast-paced vertical format while introducing new storylines focused on self-discovery, relationships, family dynamics and romantic comedy elements. Produced by Atresmedia in collaboration with La Charito Films, the series was created by Laura Reviejo and Marta Ambel Meyer. The company said the launch reinforces its commitment to vertical micro-dramas, a format that continues to gain global traction, with new projects already in development.
Alongside its content expansion, Atresplayer has also achieved new international recognition with Mariliendre (Fag Hag), which has won the award for Best Non-English Language Comedy Series at the 2026 Rockie Awards, held as part of the Banff World Media Festival. Created by Javier Ferreiro, the series stars Blanca Martínez Rodrigo and has become one of Atresmedia’s most acclaimed scripted titles, earning strong critical reception and significant audience engagement since its 2025 premiere.
The award adds to a growing list of accolades, including the GLAAD Award for Outstanding Spanish-Language Scripted Television Series and the PRODU Award for Best Content/Programme Promoting Diversity: Diverse Bodies. The series was also highlighted by international consultancy The WIT at MIPCOM 2024 as one of the most notable scripted productions worldwide.
Produced by Atresmedia in collaboration with Suma Content, Mariliendre features a main cast including Martin Urrutia, Omar Ayuso, Carlos González, Yenesi, Álvaro Jurado, Mariona Terés, Jorge Silvestre, Mariano Peña and Nina. Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi serve as producers, with Montse García and Andrea H. Catalá as executive producers. Beyond Spain, the series continues to expand its international presence following its acquisition by RTP, making it available in Portugal and further strengthening its global reach.
