Widely respected across the global audiovisual community, Garay built an extraordinary career spanning more than three decades, becoming one of the most influential figures in the international distribution and development of television content.
Throughout her professional life, she held key positions at several major companies. Among them was Telemundo, where she served as VP of International Sales and Acquisitions, playing a crucial role in expanding the company’s global presence. She was also a founding partner of Zebracom International, further consolidating her reputation as a leading executive in the international TV business.
In 2018, Garay launched Mega Global Entertainment (MGE) in partnership with the Chilean media group Megamedia, with the mission of bringing the company’s content catalogue — as well as titles from other international producers — to the global market. More recently, in 2024, she expanded the company’s activities with the creation of MGE Originals, a division dedicated to developing original scripted projects with writers and production companies from across Latin America.
Garay also played a significant role in distributing the Mediaset catalogue in Latin America, working closely with the Mediaset Distribution team led by Manuela Caputi. Over the years she collaborated intensively with the Italian team, building strong professional and personal relationships within the company.
Today, many of her colleagues at Mediaset Distribution are deeply saddened by her passing. From Claudia Marra to Sonia Danieli, the team remembers Esperanza not only as an outstanding professional but also as a remarkable human being.
Those who worked alongside her describe a woman who loved her job deeply and carried it out with exceptional integrity. For Garay, moral values always came first — as did friendship, solidarity and respect for others. She was known for her strong principles, her seriousness and her professionalism, but also for her warmth and generosity. She cared for her team as if they were her daughters, always attentive to the people around her and never forgetting anyone.
Many colleagues remember small gestures that revealed her kindness. Even during the hectic days of MIPCOM in Cannes in October — one of the busiest markets of the year, when executives rush from one high-level meeting to another, Esperanza never forgot to take a moment to celebrate friends. She would always find time to buy a birthday cake so they could share a brief moment of joy amid the intensity of the market.
Her passing represents a great loss for the international television industry — not only for the professionalism and expertise she brought to her work, but also for the humanity she shared with everyone around her.
Esperanza Garay leaves behind the legacy of a brilliant executive, a respected colleague and, above all, a dear friend. Her example, her kindness and her generosity will remain with all those who had the privilege of working with her.
Because in an industry often driven by competition and profit, she reminded everyone that there are many ways to do this job — and that success can also be built on ethics, solidarity and genuine human connection.
