BBC Hit 1% Club Commissioned by Mediaset Italy and by SVT
BBC Studios has licensed of the hit entertainment format The 1% Club to broadcasters in Sweden and Italy, marking a major milestone as it now reaches 15 territories worldwide. Originally created by Andy Auerbach and Dean Nabarro at Magnum Media in 2022, The 1% Club is the biggest selling UK format created in the past eight years and with these new deals, continues to expand its impressive global footprint.

Produced by BBC Studios Sweden Productions, the Swedish version will air on SVT, while in Italy, Blu Yazmine will produce for Mediaset.

The 1% Club originated in the UK in 2022 where season 5 is currently airing – the multi-award winning show was crowned the UK’s biggest quiz show of 2025. Recently the UK also aired a special week-long rollover event as well as Christmas and Valentines specials with a kids special still to come, underlining the show’s continued success and appetite from audiences.

That appetite is replicated globally as international adaptations continue to return year on year - recently it was announced that FOX in the US will welcome back The 1% Club for season 3. In 2025, Germany celebrated a successful season 4 where it was the #1 quiz on Sat.1, Spain saw a triumphant return for Antena 3 with the launch of season 2 delivering a 16% share - the highest ever for the Spanish adaptation. And in France, Season 4 returned to France 2 hitting a new high of 3.3m viewers in December 2025.
Israel has now commissioned a further season taking it to three in total and there’s been three seasons in Australia. When the Australian version launched in 2023, it was the biggest new launch across all channels.

The format, which challenges players’ logic has now seen an incredible 29,000 contestants across the globe vie to be part of the exclusive 1% Club.

Alongside new deals in Sweden and Italy, The 1% Club continues to expand beyond television. The brand has recently launched a digital extension on Game.City, a SMART TV platform, with a Nintendo Switch experience coming soon. In the UK, The Telegraph also recently launched a daily game of The 1% Club for its subscribers. Together, these partnerships extend the show’s logic-based, inclusive gameplay to a wider, multi-platform audience. The brand already includes Sunday Times bestselling books, a board game, and a #1 rated play-along app.

“The 1% Club is a truly global success. A fantastically consistent ratings hit wherever it plays that entertains primetime audiences with its playful and highly engaging format,” said Matt Forde, President of BBC Studios Global Productions. “Since launching in 2022, the show’s mix of wit, tension and mass appeal has helped it reach 15 territories, proving its power as a must-watch, multi-platform, entertainment quiz brand. We’re excited to be partnering with broadcasters in Sweden and Italy as the format continues to entertain viewers around the world.”

Andy Auerbach of Magnum Media, commented: “From the beginning, The 1% Club was designed to be as inclusive as possible, so a 14 year old has as much chance of winning as a 40 year old. Hitting 15 territories is a proud moment and reflects the format’s versatility and broad appeal. We’re thrilled to extend the brand even further through digital platforms and new markets.”

Magnum’s brand new gameshow format Wisdom of the Crowd – originally commissioned by BBC in the UK and now Mediaset Espana in Spain and RTL in Germany was launched by BBC Studios to international buyers at MIPCOM 2025.
