Atresmedia Internacional has announced a leadership transition with the appointment of Orestes Aja as its new director, succeeding Mar Martínez-Raposo, who will step down from the role after more than three decades leading the company’s international operations.
Currently Head of Digital & Streaming for the international division, Aja will take over the position to ensure continuity of the group’s strategic roadmap, with a strong focus on consolidating the pay TV business and further expanding the atresplayer platform. Martínez-Raposo, who has spent 36 years at Spain’s leading audiovisual group, will begin a gradual handover process that will take place over the coming months.
During a transition period, Martínez-Raposo will remain linked to the group, for whom, as she stated, “it is a great honor to be part of Atresmedia and to have had the opportunity to launch important projects. It has been an entire professional lifetime. In recent years we have been preparing for this transition, so everything will unfold in the best possible way. I am also proud to have trained excellent professionals who will continue this work.”
With more than 15 years of experience in the audiovisual industry, Orestes Aja Gurría now assumes the leadership of Atresmedia Internacional. “I take on this new challenge with great enthusiasm and deep gratitude to Mar Martínez-Raposo and Javier Nuche for their trust. It is an honor to take over from such a solid and well-built stage and to ensure continuity for a project that is key to Atresmedia’s international positioning,” said Aja, adding: “My priority will be to continue defending and strengthening a robust traditional business, with Antena 3 as the leading Spanish-language reference brand present on the main pay TV operators, while at the same time driving atresplayer as the strategic axis of Atresmedia Internacional’s growth.”
Javier Nuche, General Director of Atresmedia Diversificación, who oversees Atresmedia Internacional, also highlighted Martínez-Raposo’s legacy and described Aja as her natural successor: “Mar is a true pioneer of pay television in the Spanish-speaking market, and her career has been filled with successes, taking Atresmedia’s international channels to heights that once seemed impossible. Her long and fruitful work has been extraordinary, and I can only express my deep gratitude for her leadership and commitment. It has been a pleasure to work with her. And Orestes represents the natural succession to Mar, with whom he has worked closely over the past ten years, playing a fundamental role. His product vision, experience in D2C and B2B, commercial skills and deep knowledge of new distribution models make him the ideal profile for the position.”
