FIFTH SEASON has secured a wave of sales for the three-part docuseries "Death Cap: The Mushroom Murders", which FIFTH SEASON co-produced with Dreamchaser and Den of Martians.
The deals include Netflix (UK), CNN (US & Canada), Bell Media (French Canada), SVT (Sweden), DR (Denmark), NRK (Norway) and MTV Oy (Finland). Stan will air the final two episodes of the series later this year.
Originally commissioned by Stan in Australia, "Death Cap: The Mushroom Murders" is directed by the Emmy-nominated Gil Marsden (United States of Scandal with Jake Tapper) and chronicles the high-profile case of Erin Patterson – an Australian woman convicted of fatally poisoning three relatives with a mushroom-laced meal.
Jennifer Ebell, EVP Television Distribution at FIFTH SEASON said, “'Death Cap: The Mushroom Murders' cuts straight to the heart of a case that’s captivated Australia and far beyond. With rare access and clear-eyed storytelling, Gil brings fresh insight to a small-town tragedy that spiralled into a global media storm. The response at home has been extraordinary, and we’re excited to share this story with audiences around the world.”
New Title
On another deal, FIFTH SEASON announces the global distribution on "The Westies", the new eight-episode crime drama series from creator and executive producer Chris Brancato (Godfather of Harlem,). Under his overall television deal with MGM+, Brancato created the series with Michael Panes, who also executive produces and showruns. "The Westies" will premiere on MGM+ in the U.S., UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, Chile, and Colombia.
"The Westies" is a gritty and kinetic crime drama centering on New York City’s infamously violent Irish gang of the same name. Jennifer Ebell added: “With 'The Westies', Chris Brancato and Michael Panes have created exactly the kind of premium crime series we know audiences and buyers respond to. It’s sharp, character-driven storytelling set against the gritty pulse of 1980s New York, with all the ambition and edge you want from a world like this. We’re confident the series will cut through and connect with viewers globally”
