"Sam & Julia, The Mouse Mansion" is officially arriving on German screens. Streaming on ZDF.de kicked off on October 27, 2025, offering viewers free access to the first episodes. Beginning November 28, 2025, the series will air daily on KiKA — Monday through Sunday — with two episodes broadcast each evening. A linear launch on ZDF is set to follow on January 4, 2026.
Across 78 seven-minute animated episodes, "Sam & Julia" welcomes audiences into an intricately crafted miniature world where friendship, discovery, and compassion fuel every story. “I created Sam and Julia to show children a world shaped by friendship, curiosity, and togetherness,” says Karina Schaapman, creator of The Mouse Mansion. “Watching this handmade universe come to life on screen and reaching children in so many countries is a dream come true. It truly feels like The Mouse Mansion has been reborn for everyone.”
"Sam & Julia" is a coproduction with Cielo Films, Caribara Production, SuperswissRed, M.A.R.K.13TM, and ZDF Studios GmbH, with participation from France télévisions and the ZDF German Television Network.
“From the very beginning, our mission was to translate the warmth, craftsmanship, and emotional heart of The Mouse Mansion to the screen,” says Léon-Gilbert Hus (Cielo Films). “Every element — from the handcrafted sets to the gentle storytelling — stays true to Karina Schaapman’s vision. We’re thrilled that German audiences can now connect with this universe and its spirit of friendship and curiosity in a brand-new way.”
The animated series continues the success of the internationally bestselling book collection created by Schaapman in Amsterdam. Built entirely by hand from cardboard boxes, recycled objects, and vintage fabrics, the original Mouse Mansion remains the core inspiration behind Sam and Julia’s stories.
