Woodcut Media's The Race for Ancient Egypt in Colour Heads to the UK and Australia
Woodcut Media and distributor Woodcut International present a new 2-part documentary "The Race for Ancient Egypt in Colour", which has been presold to Channel 4 (UK) and SBS (Australia). Additional pre-sales confirmed by Woodcut International include BBC Studios (for BBC Earth in Africa and the BBC Select streaming platform in the US and Canada), AMC Networks International Southern Europe (for Canal HISTORIA) and YLE Finland.

"The Race for Ancient Egypt in Colour" uncovers the remarkable story of Egypt during the years between the World Wars – a period when archaeology became entwined with the politics of a nation seeking full sovereignty. In 1922, Egyptology captured global attention with Howard Carter’s discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb, sparking worldwide Egyptomania. The series also explores other major discoveries of the era, including Queen Hetepheres’ tomb and Pierre Montet’s extraordinary but lesser-known find at Tanis – until World War II brought this golden age of Egyptian discovery to a close.

Andre Holzinger serves as Series Producer, with Tom Adams and Kate Beal as Executive Producers. Woodcut International manages global sales.

Andre Holzinger, Series Producer, Woodcut Media, said: “It was captivating to revisit this extraordinary period of exploration from a fresh perspective, to highlight the lesser-known stories and present them to audiences in a visually engaging and thrilling way.”

Koulla Anastasi, Managing Director, Woodcut International, added: “We have witnessed tremendous enthusiasm for this series and are delighted to have finalised these presales. Bringing these incredible stories to life using the latest colourisation technology, and with Egyptology being a source of fascination for centuries, we are confident broadcasters and viewers alike will find this 2-part documentary a true treasure!”

"The Race for Ancient Egypt in Colour" (2x60’) follows on from Woodcut’s recent productions – "Titanic in Colour", "Britain’s Railway Empire in Colour" and "The Manhattan Project in Colour". The documentaries use striking colourisation methods on archival footage and images, breathing new life into historical events in a spectacular way.
