Banijay Kids & Family is celebrating the 20th anniversary of award-winning preschool series "Charlie and Lola". The Tiger Aspect Kids & Family show continues to thrive across broadcast and digital platforms, with series re-licensed by the BBC, and further distribution deals across Europe.
The BBC has re-licensed "Charlie and Lola" seasons 1–3 and StoryZoo & Friends has secured rights for seasons 1 and 2 in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. As part of its digital growth strategy, Banijay Kids & Family re-launched "Charlie and Lola" on YouTube last year, introducing the timeless stories to a new generation of viewers. The official channel has already seen impressive engagement, with 7M views and 25M minutes streamed.
"Charlie and Lola" first launched on CBeebies in 2005 and quickly became a household favourite. Based on the award-winning picture books by Lauren Child, the series features a unique 2D cut-out-style animation and photomontage, voiced by a children’s cast. Across three seasons, the show comprises 78×11’ and 2×22’ episodes, and has received multiple Children’s BAFTAs.
Tom Beattie, MD, Tiger Aspect Kids & Family says: “'Charlie and Lola' has always been a special project for Tiger Aspect Kids & Family. With a starting point of the beautiful and iconic books by Lauren Child, to creating a studio in London to produce the series that so many crew still reference today. There was and still is a lot of love for Charlie and Lola and it’s wonderful the series is still finding new homes after all this time.”
