Sony SAB, the Hindi-language entertainment channel, is set to debut Itti Si Khushi, the Indian adaptation of the acclaimed British comedy-drama Shameless.
The series is being produced by Rose Audio Visuals, the production banner helmed by Bollywood filmmaker Goldie Behl. Initially announced in 2023 with BBC Studios attached as producer, the project shifted hands after BBC Studios decided to scale back its production operations in India earlier this year.
Set against the vibrant yet chaotic backdrop of Mumbai, Itti Si Khushi follows the journey of a resilient young woman—played by Sumbul Touqeer—who becomes the emotional backbone of her dysfunctional family. She is the eldest of six siblings, navigating a household strained by poverty and emotional neglect. Varun Badola stars as the alcoholic father, while Rajat Verma plays the protagonist’s romantic interest.
The Indian series is based on Shameless, the hit UK show created by Paul Abbott and originally produced by Company Pictures for Channel 4. The original ran for 11 seasons from 2004 to 2013 and later inspired a popular US remake.
Itti Si Khushi is slated to premiere on August 18 on Sony SAB. Global distribution is being handled by All3Media International, which owns the rights to the original format and series.
