Dash Pictures Launches Scripted Division with Psychological Thriller Better Starring Tom Hopper
UK indie production company Dash Pictures, best known for its acclaimed factual programming and four Emmy nominations, is officially expanding into the scripted arena. Founder Daniel Sharp announced today that the company's first scripted project, the psychological thriller Better, has just wrapped production in the UK and is scheduled for delivery by the end of the year. Better stars British actor Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy, Game of Thrones) in a dual role as Henry Kane, a man battling chronic depression, and his newly discovered identical twin, Patrick Williams. While Henry’s life is in freefall—trapped in a loveless marriage, stuck in a dead-end job, and reeling from the death of his estranged father—Patrick appears to be everything Henry is not: successful, charismatic, and enviably perfect. The revelation sparks an existential crisis that spirals into a dangerous psychological unraveling.

The feature film is directed by Daniel Sharp himself, written by Omid Ghaffarian, and produced by Anna O’Malley (Slow Horses, Silo, Queen Charlotte), Sharp, Laura Hopper, and Tom Hopper. Executive producers include Daniel Sharp, Anna O’Malley, Sebastian Barker, Michael Reuter, and Sam Cryer.“Better marks a milestone for Dash Pictures as we move into scripted content,” said Daniel Sharp. “This story had a psychological complexity and cinematic scope that we knew would translate powerfully to the screen. Collaborating with Anna, Laura, and Tom on this has been incredibly fulfilling. Tom’s portrayal of both twins is nuanced, layered, and emotionally riveting. With principal photography complete, we’re deep into post-production and already engaging with several distribution partners.”

Executive Producer Anna O’Malley added: “At its core, Better poses a universal question: Am I enough? What if a better version of ourselves existed—not within, but out there? For Henry Kane, that unsettling possibility is a reality. The film dives into jealousy and self-loathing with a visceral, brother-on-brother tension. Working alongside Tom and Laura Hopper and under Daniel Sharp’s thoughtful direction has made this project a thrilling journey.”
The film’s official synopsis teases a tense, character-driven narrative:What if you discovered you weren’t unique, but a lesser version of someone else?
Henry Kane’s life is in shambles—professionally and personally—when he meets Patrick Williams, his long-lost twin. As the siblings reconnect, Henry becomes consumed by envy and obsession, leading him down a dark psychological path. Better delves deep into identity, family, and the destructive power of comparison.
