Beta's Other People’s Money series Europe’s Biggest Tax Fraud Comes to Berlinale
Official Berlinale entry Other People’s Money unravels the shocking true story of how a network of ultra-wealthy investors, bankers, and lawyers stole €146 billion from European taxpayers in what has been called the largest tax fraud in history.

Beta Film has partnered with X Filme Creative Pool (Babylon Berlin), True Content Entertainment (Millennium trilogy), and EPO-Film, alongside broadcasters ZDF, DR, and New8, to bring this gripping drama to life. The fictionalized series, inspired by real events, will premiere in February at Berlinale’s prestigious Panorama section, with cast and crew in attendance.

Part of Beta’s exceptional Berlinale lineup, Other People’s Money joins the festival’s official opening film The Light by Tom Tykwer (Run Lola Run), starring Lars Eidinger (Babylon Berlin), as well as the Panorama world premiere of Cicadas by Ina Weisse (The Audition), featuring Nina Hoss (Tár).

Created by showrunner Jan Schomburg (I’m Your Man; Above Us Only Sky), Other People’s Money is inspired by the explosive “CumEx-Files” investigation, which exposed a global financial scheme that defrauded European treasuries—robbing every European citizen in the process. The eight-hour series follows both the masterminds behind the fraud and two women from different countries determined to stop them. But with governments and banks seemingly working against them, justice is anything but guaranteed.

The series boasts a stellar cast, including Lisa Wagner (From Hilde, With Love), Karen-Lise Mynster (Madame Ida), Justus von Dohnányi (Downfall), Niels Strunk, David Dencik (No Time to Die; Chernobyl), and Fabian Hinrichs (Divided We Stand). Directing duties are shared by Dustin Loose (Divided We Stand) and Kaspar Munk (The Rain; Kamikaze), with cinematography by Clemens Baumeister (Divided We Stand) and Laust Trier Mørk (The Responder).

Produced by X Filme Creative Pool and True Content Entertainment in co-production with EPO-Film, the series is commissioned by ZDF and DR, in collaboration with New8—a consortium of European public broadcasters including NRK, SVT, RUV, YLE, NPO, VRT, DR, and ZDF. It is co-funded by Fisa+, GMPF, the European Union, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, The Nordvisions Fund, and the Croatian Audiovisual Center.

As the global distribution partner, Beta Film will handle worldwide sales.
