Abacus Media Rights sells award-winning adventure documentary Savage Waters to Tull Stories for UK and Ireland
Abacus Media Rights (AMR), an Amcomri Entertainment Company, has signed a UK all-rights deal with distribution and exhibition label Tull Stories for stunning adventure documentary Savage Waters, produced by France-based independent production company Whipped Sea.

Set for release in the UK and Ireland later this year, the 93-minute documentary is an intimate portrait of modern adventurers as they follow clues left in a 19th century treasure-hunter’s journal to find and ride a mythical wave in some of the most dangerous waters of the Atlantic.

For renowned skipper Matt Knight, sailing to unpredictable and uncharted regions is impossible to resist. As a lifelong thrill-seeker, he is constantly testing the limits of what’s possible, something world-class big wave surfer Andrew Cotton has also built his career on.

With family and friends, they board the beautiful catamaran Hecate and follow clues to this “perfect wave” - but not everything goes to plan, with serious injury and life-threatening challenges testing the crew’s resilience and attitudes towards risk.

From multi-award-winning director Mikey Corker (Lord of War, Beneath the Surface), Savage Waters is produced by Ghislaine Couvillat (Girls Can’t Surf, La Quête du sauvage) and executive produced by Kathleen Glynn (Bowling for Columbine, Fahrenheit 9/11), Peggy Cafferty (Ladder 49), Lorcan Kavanagh (The Midnight Man) and Maia Norman.

The documentary is narrated by Primetime Emmy and BAFTA nominated actor Charles Dance (Mank, Game of Thrones, The Imitation Game), and it boasts jaw-dropping cinematography, following remarkable protagonists, for whom living life to the full often means putting themselves in danger.

The original score was composed by the artist duo AVAWAVES, composed of Aisling Brouwer and Anna Phoebe, who are signed to One Little Independent Records and are published and represented by Manners McDade.

Tull Stories will release Savage Waters theatrically as part of its growing Adventure Club strand, before releasing on VOD.

Ghislaine Couvillat, Producer and Founder of Whipped Sea, comments: “After an amazing festival journey where Savage Waters accumulated awards and enthralled audiences, I am so happy to finally bring this film to UK and Ireland cinemas, with so many people keen to see this film on the big screen, where it truly delivers an amazing experience and such an inspiring story with stunning cinematography, incredible sound and a beautiful score.”

Kathleen Glynn, Executive Producer, describes Savage Waters as “A dramatic and gorgeous documentary feature shot under risk while meeting the challenge of adventure. Family bonding meets epic surfing.”

Hana Palmer, Head of Sales at AMR, adds: “We are thrilled that this truly gripping adventure feature will have a theatrical release in the UK and Ireland. It will certainly keep audiences on the edge of their seats as the group defies some of the most treacherous waves in the world to find the perfect one. It’s an electrifying, entertaining and ultimately emotional rollercoaster of a ride.”

Jonny Tull, founder of Tull Stories, states: “I’m delighted beyond measure that Tull Stories gets to present the UK and Ireland cinema release of Savage Waters. Audiences have been desperate to know when this brilliant film will reach cinemas in their communities, and I’m sure our exhibition partners will be very excited about screening it!”
