RTVE is heading to MIPCOM Cannes 2026 with a new international slate combining scripted drama, comedy, biographical storytelling and factual programming, led by new titles Rojo sobre Blanco, Rocío and Denominación de Origen.
Among the key scripted launches is Rojo
sobre Blanco (8 x 70’, 2026), a police procedural centred on Daniela, a
forensic linguist living in Madrid whose unusual ability to uncover clues
through language comes to light during a kidnapping investigation. She begins
working alongside police inspector Mario, with their growing attraction adding
a personal layer to the cases they investigate. The series combines crime,
suspense and comedy, with language itself becoming a central investigative
tool.
Another major title on the slate is Rocío
(4 x 70’, 2026), a biographical drama about legendary Spanish singer Rocío
Jurado. From her childhood in Chipiona to her move to Madrid and her
international success as La Más Grande, the series explores both the
public figure and the woman behind the icon, tracing her career, family life,
ambitions and influence on Spanish popular culture.
RTVE is also bringing Denominación de
Origen (4 x 50’, 2026), a documentary series offering behind-the-scenes
access to the Spanish national football team ahead of the 2026 World
Cup. Featuring exclusive interviews with 32 players and their families and
close circles, the series profiles stars including Lamine Yamal, Rodri
Hernández, Nico Williams, Pedri González and Marc Cucurella. The story
follows the national team from the appointment of Luis de la Fuente through its
Nations League 2023 and Euro 2024 victories and qualification for the World
Cup.
Also included in RTVE’s scripted catalogue
is La Frontera (5 x 60’, 2025), a political thriller set in 1987 against
the backdrop of growing Franco-Spanish cooperation in the fight against ETA.
When a splinter group secretly plans an attack in Paris, a young Guardia Civil
captain discovers the plot through an intercepted coded message and races to
prevent it.
Barrio Esperanza (8 x 75’, 2025) follows Esperanza, a former prison inmate who earns
a teaching degree while behind bars and begins a new life as a primary-school
teacher. As she adapts to the classroom, she discovers that the lessons learned
during her time in prison may prove just as valuable as her formal training.
Comedy-drama Sin Gluten (Gluten Free)
(8 x 55’, 2025) centres on Ricardo, a successful Michelin-starred chef whose
alcohol problems ultimately cost him his job. Forced to return to the culinary
school where his career began, this time as a teacher, he finds himself working
with a diverse group of students who help him rediscover both his passion for
cooking and a more authentic way of life.
Completing the lineup is factual series La
Gran Aventura de la Lengua Española (8 x 50’, 2023), which explores the
global rise of Spanish and its increasing role as one of the world’s major
languages and as an international language of communication and exchange.
