Portugal’s SIC premiered its latest telenovela, A Greater Destiny (Destino Maior), on September 14, extending its multiplatform strategy across linear channel SIC, streaming service Opto and Disney+.
The drama led its time slot on launch night, attracting more than one million viewers, with a 7.7% rating and an 18.8% audience share. Less than 24 hours after its debut, the title also ranked among the three most-watched programmes on both Disney+ and Opto. Five episodes are released weekly in advance on the streaming platforms, allowing viewers to follow the story ahead of its linear broadcast.
Adapted from Kanal D’s Turkish drama Hicran, produced by Filmevi Yapım and distributed internationally by Inter Medya, A Greater Destiny follows Lúcia Cruz, a woman marked by the loss of her newborn daughter.
After an unexpected accident, Lúcia takes a job at the prestigious Ferreira do Vale estate, where she is asked to care for a young girl, unaware that the child is in fact her own daughter. As a strong maternal bond develops between them and Lúcia begins to fall for her employer, Eduardo, a network of secrets, lies and betrayals threatens to upend their lives.
The series stars Sarra Barradas, Rita Blanco, Sofia Ribeiro and Diogo Amaral.
Following the success of Vitória, the launch underlines SIC’s continued investment in adaptations of established international scripted formats, while strengthening its collaboration with global streaming platforms. A Greater Destiny now joins the SIC International Distribution catalogue, which also includes long-running dramas Chapters of Life, Broken Promise and the new version of Vitória, alongside short-form series and factual titles.
SIC International Distribution will present its latest slate at MIPCOM Cannes, running from October 12 to 15.
