Greta Scarano and Nicolas Maupas to host Venice Film Festival Opening and Closing Ceremonies
Actress and director Greta Scarano and actor Nicolas Maupas have been announced as hosts of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, organized by La Biennale di Venezia. The duo will present the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday 2 September at the Sala Grande of the Palazzo del Cinema on the Lido, as well as the closing ceremony on Saturday 12 September, when the official awards, including the Golden Lion and other prizes, will be announced.

Greta Scarano has built a career across film and television, becoming known for her performances in acclaimed series including Romanzo criminale, Squadra antimafia, In Treatment, The Name of the Rose, Circeo and La linea verticale, for which she received the Flaiano Award. In cinema, she starred in titles such as Without Pity (Senza nessuna pietà) and Suburra, earning the Biraghi Prize at the Nastri d’Argento, the Nastri d’Argento for Best Supporting Actress and the Ciak d’Oro Revelation of the Year award.
In 2023, Scarano made her directorial debut with the short film Feliz Navidad, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and won the Corto d’Argento for Best Debut Short Film Director. Her first feature film, Siblings (La vita da grandi), released in 2025, received the Nastri d’Argento for Best Debut Film and the European Young Audience Award at the European Film Awards 2026. In 2026, she was awarded Best Actress at the Taormina Film Festival for her performance in Guido Chiesa’s Piccolo miracolo.

French-Italian actor Nicolas Maupas is one of the rising talents of the Italian audiovisual industry. He made his debut in 2020 as Filippo Ferrari in the first season of Mare Fuori, a role that brought him widespread recognition. He later starred in series including Nudes, Un professore, Sopravvissuti and Noi siamo Leggenda, while also appearing in films such as The Beautiful Summer (La bella estate) and Sotto il sole di Amalfi.
Between 2023 and 2025, Maupas joined the international production The Count of Montecristo, directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Bille August, and portrayed inventor Guglielmo Marconi in the miniseries Marconi – L’uomo che ha connesso il mondo. In 2025, he starred in L’amore, in teoria directed by Luca Lucini, returned for the third season of Un professore and joined the cast of Call My Agent – Italia.
