Coolabi and Tencent Video have greenlit the first official animated television adaptation of Warrior Cats, marking the debut screen version of the long-running fantasy book franchise. The series has begun production and is set to premiere in 2028 on Tencent Video platforms across China and Southeast Asia. The project follows a previous development agreement between Coolabi Group and Tencent Video and represents the first authorized animated adaptation of the popular book series, which will be based on the storyline of Warrior Cats: The Prophecies Begin. Original Force, a global CG and game content studio, is producing the animation for Tencent Video. The series is led by showrunner A.C. Bradley (Ms Marvel, What If?), with Emmy-winning director Rodrigo Blaas (Finding Nemo) attached to direct in collaboration with El Guiri Studios.
Warrior Cats, created by Working Partners, a Coolabi Group company, has become a global publishing phenomenon, with more than 90 million books sold in 38 languages and a presence on the New York Times bestseller list for over 20 years. The franchise has also built a large digital and gaming footprint, including over 2 million annual users on its official website, around 50 million monthly views of user-generated content on YouTube, and nearly 3 billion views on TikTok. Its Roblox game Warrior Cats: Ultimate Edition has been played more than 728 million times.
“We’re excited to partner with Coolabi on Warrior Cats, a franchise that embodies the future of global storytelling,” said Tina Ma, Co-President and COO of Tencent Video. “Together we’re bringing the beloved Warrior Cats world to new platforms and markets in a way that feels both familiar and fresh, creating an animated series designed to captivate existing fans and win new ones.”
Allison Watkins, Director of Consumer Products and TV Distribution at Coolabi Group, added: “Following our development deal with Tencent Video in 2024, we couldn’t be more thrilled that we are now in production and have such a stellar creative team bringing the books to the screen delivering a truly exciting new series to Warrior Cats fans across the globe. 2026 has already seen the successful launch of Warrior Cats toys at retail in the US and we anticipate a whirlwind year ahead for the brand.”
