HBO Max will premiere on April 3, the documentary dedicated to Italian actress Gina Lollobrigida: Diva Contesa. The three-part series tells the true story behind the so-called “Gina Lollobrigida case,” a complex and highly publicized legal saga that captivated both Italian and global audiences. Through a narrative rich in intrigue, deception, and unexpected revelations, the docu-series reconstructs the final chapter in the life of one of cinema’s most iconic figures.
The project traces the extraordinary trajectory of Gina Lollobrigida—international film star, photographer, sculptor, and painter, as well as a symbol of independence—up until her death in 2023. Particular emphasis is placed on the legal battle surrounding her substantial estate, estimated between €10 and €20 million, with allegations of additional funds potentially held in Panama.
At the center of this dispute are three key figures: her son Milko Skofic, her alleged husband Francisco Javier Rigau, and her former manager Andrea Piazzolla. As the series reveals, the diva’s final years became engulfed in a vortex of accusations, betrayals, and suspicions of manipulation, transforming a private family matter into a broader judicial and media spectacle.
The docu-series is produced by Indigo Stories, with Alessandro Lostia serving as producer and Ettore Musco as line producer, in collaboration with Loft Produzioni, led by producer David Perluigi and line producer Luca Motta. The writing team includes Carlo Altinier and Matteo Billi, with contributions from Elena Martelli, Ilenia Petracalvina, Shaila Risolo, and Morena Zapparoli. Original music is composed by Giorgio Spada, with editing by Michele Castelli and Daria Di Mauro, cinematography by Luigi Montebello, and direction by Graziano Conversano.
