Fabrizio Battocchio discussed about formats and trends at Content London
Fabrizio Battocchio Head of formats and factual entertainment at Mediaset talked about trends and shows during a panel titled Commissiong Entertainment moderated by journalist Gun Akyuz during the Content London (London November 28 - December 2, 2022).

Battocchio said that the economic crisis is making him more cautious in his commissioning strategy but he is still in the market for a new shiny-floor gameshow for peaktime.
He also added: “We are favouring long-running shows at the moment, which means there is not much space for new ones. Celebrity versions of Big Brother and Survivor do well for us.”

Battocchio sources ideas internationally and from local companies. “In the last three years, we have gone back more to local development. One successful result of that is Back To School, a totally original concept developed in-house,” he said.

A key priority for Battocchio is a shiny-floor gameshow for peaktime, a sub-genre that he says is increasingly hard to find. “I’d like a big mainstream studio-based show; that is what we need and what audience is looking for. But I don’t see a lot because I think producers are looking more at OTT commissioning strategies and factual experiments,” he said.

However, RTI is willing to take a chance on the right idea, said Battocchio. “If we love an idea, then we are willing to take a risk. We don’t care.”
