The winners of the 2020 Emmy Awards
The Television Academy has celebrated yesterday the 72nd edition of the Emmy Awards, recognizing excellence in primetime programming and individual achievement for the 2019-2020 television season.

The 72nd Emmy Awards were broadcast live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on ABC, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and produced by Done+Dusted, Reginald Hudlin and KIMMELOT. The telecast featured awards in 23 Emmy categories, plus the Governors Award, presented by top talent from some of television’s most acclaimed programs. Presenters and surprise guests included Anthony Anderson, Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Ty Burrell, LaVerne Cox, America Ferrera, Morgan Freeman, Ilana Glazer, Abbi Jacobson, Ken Jeong, Mindy Kaling, Tatiana Maslany, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Bob Newhart, D-Nice, Randall Park, Issa Rae, RuPaul, Jason Sudeikis, Gabrielle Union, Lena Waithe, J.J. Watt and Oprah Winfrey.

HBO’s Succession wins the marquee Best Drama Series: this is the verdict of the 72nd edition of the Emmy Awards presented for the first time in virtual version because of the coronavirus and renamed by the host Jimmy Kimmel “Pandemmy”. Schitt's Creek, Canadian sitcom about a fish-out-of-water family, had a big night: it took seven honors including best comedy series, lead actor and actress for Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara, and supporting actor and best writing for Daniel Levy, becoming the first TV show in Emmy history to win all major comedy awards. HBO's Watchmen took best limited series, marking the first time that the adaptation of a comic has brought home a first prize. Regina King, the protagonist, was also awarded. Zendaya Coleman snagged best lead actress in a drama for Euphoria and Jeremy Strong nabbed lead actor for Succession.
