French Audiovisual Exports Reach €282.7M in 2025
At the 32nd Unifrance Rendez-Vous in Le Havre (September 7–10, 2026), the Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée (CNC) and Unifrance released two complementary studies examining the performance and global presence of French audiovisual content in 2025. The CNC report analyzes export revenues across sales, pre-sales, and co-productions, while Unifrance’s inaugural Annual Report evaluates the international presence of French programming on linear channels and SVOD platforms.
Total export revenues—encompassing sales, pre-sales, and co-productions—reached €282.7 million in 2025, representing a 28.1% drop from 2024’s record high of €393.0 million. International sales totaled €164.3 million (down 21.6% from €209.6 million), pre-sales fell 59.3% to €30.7 million, and co-production contributions decreased 18.7% to €87.7 million. The contraction reflects broader market pressures, including reduced commitments from public and private broadcasters, selective buyer strategies, and streamlined SVOD investments focused on local content.

Genre Performance Breakdown
Fiction: Remained the top export genre
for the fourth consecutive year, generating €54.9 million in sales (down 27.0% from 2024) and securing a 33.4% market share. Demand was driven by light crime titles such as Deadly Tropics, Bright Minds, Tom & Lola, and The Coroner, alongside event series like Samber and The Sentinels.
Documentary: Became the second-largest genre with a 26.2% market share, holding steady at €43.1 million in sales (-2.7%). Strong performance was led by history, science, and current affairs programs.
Animation: Ranked third for the first time, recording €32.2 million in sales (down 30.3%) for a 19.6% market share, impacted early by market shifts and evolving viewer habits.

Western Europe maintained its position as the primary export market with €76.7 million in sales (-15.3%), accounting for 46.7% of global revenues. North America reclaimed second place with €18.9 million (+14.7%, 11.5% share), followed by Central and Eastern Europe with €12.2 million (-26.5%, 7.4% share), and Asia/Oceania with €8.7 million (-33.4%, 5.3% share). Multi-region and worldwide rights totaled €38.4 million (-33.6%), led by animation (29.7%) and documentaries (21.9%).

International Presence on Linear and SVOD
Unifrance's findings show France maintained its position as the top EU country and 3rd worldwide (behind the US and UK) for the number of titles broadcast on linear television. On SVOD platforms, France ranked 7th globally.
Animation and kids' programming (Miraculous, Grizzy and the Lemmings, Pyjamasques) led broadcasts on specialty channels internationally, notably in the UK and Brazil. Documentaries (Ancient Superstructures, D-Day: 100 Days for Freedom, Miyazaki, Spirit of Nature, I Am Martin Parr) generated the highest volume of recent SVOD releases, while procedural and detective series (Meurtres à…, Candice Renoir, Profiling, Reckless Summer, The Bureau) continued to achieve broad international distribution.
