Black Palace the psychological thriller set behind the secretive walls of Buckingham Palace from BAFTA winning Director Nick Hamm (William Tell, Driven, The Hole), just released first look images as the film goes into post-production. New Regency, who is handling worldwide sales, will begin talks with potential distributors as fall festival season kicks into gear.
The series features a stellar cast including Freya Allan (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, The Witcher), Academy Award nominee Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog), Joe Anders (Cape Fear), Raffey Cassidy (The Brutalist), Iain Glen (Game of Thrones) with Martin Clunes (Wuthering Heights) and Juliet Stevenson (Truly Madly Deeply). It is written by Jon Croker (No One Gets Out Alive, Academy Award winning The Boy, The Mole, The Fox & The Horse).
In the Autumn of 1888, as the emerging tabloid media terrify the public with lurid stories of Jack the Ripper, a young woman is sent to work at the heart of Queen Victoria’s British Empire: Buckingham Palace. Her task is to spy on Victoria’s wayward grandson who keeps disappearing at night. As she grows closer to the prince, traversing a maze of privilege and poverty, she uncovers secrets which threaten both the Crown and her own survival.
The film is produced by Marie-Christine Jaeger-Firmenich for SIMIA Productions, BAFTA Nominee Piers Tempest for Tempo Productions, Academy Award nominee Mark Huffam and Nick Hamm under his newly created company, Hamm4. Hannah Shipley and Will Matthews co-produced the film with Jeremy Bolt and Croker serving as executive producers.
"Directing Black Palace has been both a privilege and a unique challenge. The film is constantly shifting between question and answer, tone and perspective, and that demanded a similarly fluid approach to genre. One moment needing to thrill, the next to enchant; extreme fear had to sit alongside extreme passion. Much like the play within the story, the film itself becomes a kind of Jekyll & Hyde experience: romantic and terrifying, seductive and unsettling in equal measure. I can’t wait to share it with audiences," stated Director Nick Hamm.
New Regency is one of Hollywood's leading independent entertainment companies, with an established track record for partnering with visionary filmmakers and creators to create bold, ambitious, culturally relevant films and television shows across the world.
