The 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) brought together some of the biggest names in international cinema for a celebration of filmmaking, artistic excellence and European cinema. Held from July 3 to 11 in the Czech spa town of Karlovy Vary, the festival presented a rich program of competition titles, special screenings and tributes while honoring acclaimed actors, directors and filmmakers from around the world.
The festival opened with The Match, the Argentina-Spain documentary directed by Juan Cabral and Santiago Franco, recounting the unforgettable 1986 FIFA World Cup clash between Argentina and England.
Among the most anticipated moments of this year's edition was the presentation of the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema to legendary actor Dustin Hoffman, who received a prolonged standing ovation during the opening ceremony.
The festival also honored acclaimed cinematographer Robert Richardson with the Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema. President's Awards were presented to actress and filmmaker Maggie Gyllenhaal and actor, playwright and director Jesse Eisenberg.
French star Juliette Binoche, who received the festival's Crystal Globe at the closing ceremony, also participated in an onstage conversation reflecting on her collaborations with two of cinema's greatest auteurs: Abbas Kiarostami and Krzysztof Kieślowski.
Another festival highlight came with Harvey Keitel's appearance to present Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets. The festival also announced President's Awards for Jeffrey Wright and renowned Slovak actress Magda Vášáryová, accompanied by special screenings celebrating their careers.
Under the leadership of Executive Director Kryštof Mucha and Artistic Director Karel Och, the 60th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival once again confirmed its status as one of Central and Eastern Europe's leading cinematic events, combining world premieres, international competition and tributes to some of the industry's most influential creative voices.
