Taiwan Animation Gains Strong Aresence at Annecy 2026
Taiwanese animation has secured a notable international spotlight at the 2026 Annecy International Animation Film Festival and MIFA Market, with five original works selected for the official festival programme and one project included in the MIFA Pitches. The Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) is participating through a dedicated Taiwan Pavilion, bringing together 41 companies and 61 works under initiatives such as Toon Up Taiwan! and the TAIWAN SPOTLIGHT SHOWCASE. For the first time, TAICCA has also partnered with MIFA to launch the new TCCF Prize within the MIFA Pitches framework, aimed at supporting cross-border co-productions and international industry connections.
TAICCA Chairperson Sue Wang highlighted Taiwan’s growing strength in technology-driven animation production, positioning the territory as a key link between advanced production technologies and global content creation.

In the official selection, Welcome to Dolly’s House, directed by Seven YCH, Rady FU and Tree MUTA, was chosen for the Contrechamp section and also selected as the opening film. The project blends live-action motion capture with 2D animation and has previously received CCDP support and National Development Fund investment. Other selected works include Praying Mantis by Joe HSIEH, featured in the Midnight Shorts section; You Are Not Part of The Cake by Ting-Jui CHEN, a Taiwan-UK co-production included in WTF; YaYa’s Band by Chun-chien LIEN in the TV Films category; and Immature by Eddy WU in Graduation Films, a short exploring gender fluidity. Several of these selections mark first-time inclusions in Annecy’s official competition categories.
In the MIFA Pitches, Resonance by HUANG Jia-yi from Taipei National University of the Arts was selected for the Student Pitches, while Sam & Watson, developed through TCCF’s 2025 pitching programme, is also in contention for an award, reflecting growing international momentum for Taiwanese projects.
Alongside the competition slate, TAICCA also hosted Toon Up Taiwan!, a pitching initiative developed in collaboration with GOBELINS Paris over a nine-month programme. Five projects were selected from 15 emerging creator teams: Hwa’s Going On by Pin-Yu CHANG, Leco’s Rolling Home by Manffy LAI, MY LOOPY GRANNY by Ying Chieh HUANG and Singing CHANG, Olu, The Treasure Seeker by Esmee HUNG, and TraTra & MuuMuu by Hui-Ling LO, Yu-Hong CHEN and Wendy LAI.

The TAIWAN SPOTLIGHT SHOWCASE also highlighted five projects already in advanced development or sales stages, including YAYA’S BAND, HI KIDS! SING AND DANCE WITH LUSASA FAMILY, PURINGAU, FLAMIE RANGERS, and BEELU’S YUM YUM TIME, with a focus on expanding licensing and international co-production opportunities.
The newly introduced TCCF Prize will grant winning international teams access to the 2026 TCCF ecosystem, including pitching sessions, workshops and business meetings. Selected co-productions involving Taiwanese partners may also access TAICCA’s Creative Content Development Program, offering funding of up to NT$3 million.
TAICCA also strengthened international industry ties through matchmaking events with organisations including Unifrance, NZFC, Ausfilm, FDCP, VIPO and Colombian film bodies, reinforcing Taiwan’s global animation visibility and collaboration network.
