The international expansion of Destination X from Be-Entertainment continues to gather pace as the adventure competition format secures second-season recommissions from both the BBC in the UK and M6 in France. The renewed orders follow the success of the format’s first local adaptations in both markets. In France, the new season will be produced by ITV Studios France in partnership with X-Line, while in the UK, producer Twofour has already launched casting for the next BBC edition.
The latest recommissions add to a growing list of renewals for the format, which has also returned on NBC in the US and RTL in the Netherlands. In its home market of Belgium, the series has already reached a third season, continuing to deliver strong performance for VTM across linear and digital platforms.
At the same time, Destination X is expanding into new territories. Local adaptations have recently been commissioned in Ukraine and Hungary, with TV2 preparing to launch the format for the first time. The additions bring the total number of local versions to nine.
The award-winning format Destination X was created and produced by Geronimo for VTM in Belgium, with international distribution handled by Be-Entertainment. Gepke Nederlof, MD of Be-Entertainment, comments: "We are incredibly grateful for the continued trust and partnership of both M6 and the BBC. There is no better proof of the format's success than to see our partners from Twofour, ITV Studios France and X-Line embarking on this adventurous journey again."
The format follows contestants travelling aboard the mysterious “X-Bus” on a journey where neither they nor the audience know their exact location. Players must continuously determine where they are, with the contestant placing their marker furthest from the actual destination facing elimination. The format combines travel, strategy and mystery while encouraging viewers to play along across multiple screens.
