Globo Announces Creation of a Portugal Hub to Strengthen Its Presence in Europe
At the close of the first day of Content Europe on Tuesday, April 21, buyers and executives gathered at the Lisbon Marriott Hotel for Globo’s high-profile showcase, where the Brazilian media powerhouse unveiled new strategic initiatives and fresh titles for the international market. Leading the presentation were Angela Colla, head of international business at Globo International Distribution, and Rodrigo Nascimento, head of business development and sales, EMEA at Globo’s Portuguese arm.

During the session, Globo reaffirmed the enduring global strength of its telenovelas, a genre that continues to resonate far beyond Brazil and remains one of the company’s most valuable export assets. Executives highlighted how iconic titles such as Avenida Brasil helped establish Globo as a premium scripted supplier in markets across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Among the most significant announcements was the creation of a dedicated hub in Portugal, described as Globo’s “second home.” The move strengthens the company’s long-standing ties with the Portuguese-speaking market and is expected to enhance both production capabilities and commercial operations across Europe, Africa and Lusophone territories.
Nascimento also detailed Globo’s dual business model. On one side, the group continues to focus on the sale of ready-made finished content, including premium series and classic telenovelas. On the other, Globo is increasingly investing in format licensing, both scripted and unscripted, allowing local broadcasters and producers to adapt proven Brazilian IP for their own audiences.

A key talking point was Globo’s growing commitment to microdrama, one of the fastest-rising trends in the global content business. The company officially launched Who is the Father of My Baby?, part of its first wave of short-form vertical productions designed primarily for smartphone viewing. Each title runs in episodes of around two minutes, targeting younger digital-first audiences and opening new monetisation opportunities. Other titles in the slate include A Millionaire Nanny, Cinderella & the Secret of the Poor Millionaire and Crazy.

The showcase also celebrated Globo’s expansion into local adaptations. Joining the executives on stage were Portuguese stars Maria João Bastos and Filipe Vargas, who presented Chapters of Life, the Portuguese remake of Globo classic Páginas da Vida, now airing on SIC and Prime Video.

Further titles promoted in Lisbon included Anything Goes, The Best Side of Life, Three Graces, Blood Red, Single Together, Perfect Days, The Others and Emergency 53.
In another notable deal announced during the market, Italian broadcaster TV2000 acquired the telenovela A Time to Love through an agreement brokered with Tunnel Produzioni, a long-standing Globo partner in Europe. The series is scheduled to launch in Italy in June.
