The global momentum behind The Traitors shows no signs of slowing down, as All3Media International announces a major new acquisition for the UK market. The BBC has secured the rights to the Indian adaptation of the reality phenomenon, originally produced for Prime Video, adding another layer of international intrigue to its streaming portfolio.
The deal highlights a booming "tape sale" market for the franchise, which has now seen over 1,700 hours of finished content licensed worldwide. By acquiring the Hindi version, the BBC continues to build a dedicated hub for the brand on BBC iPlayer, where the Indian series will join existing adaptations from Ireland, the US, New Zealand, Australia, and the two hit UK iterations.
Hosted by the iconic media personality Karan Johar, the 10-episode first season of The Traitors India transports the game of trust and betrayal to a majestic palace in Suryagarh, Rajasthan. The cast features 20 celebrities—including Anshula Kapoor, Ashish Vidyarthi, and Elnaaz Nourouzi—competing in a high-stakes psychological battle that captivated audiences across 88% of India’s pin codes during its debut. The production has already garnered critical acclaim, with director Nishant Nayak winning an Asian Academy Award for Best Director, and the series taking home trophies for Best Adaptation of an Existing Format and Best Entertainment Host at the 2025 Asian Academy Creative Awards (AACA). A second season is already in production.
A Global Phenomenon in Numbers
The BBC is not alone in its hunger for international versions. All3Media International reports that finished tapes have now been sold across 50 territories: Crave (Canada), currently hosts 11 different adaptations, including versions from France, the Netherlands, and Hungary. Network 10 (Australia) has licensed versions from India, New Zealand, the UK, and the US. RTL (Netherlands): The format’s original home has brought in versions from Flemish Belgium, the UK, and Australia. This "thriving tape slate" complements the format's explosive growth; earlier this year, All3Media reached a milestone of 40 territories commissioning local versions, with new adaptations launching in Indonesia, Slovakia, Estonia, Serbia, and Malta.
The announcement follows a string of successes for the brand, including the BBC’s recent commitment to keep the UK and Celebrity versions on air until at least 2030. Beyond the screen, The Traitors is expanding into a London-based live experience and a confirmed stage play for 2027.
Maartje Horchner, EVP Content at All3Media International, commented: > “We’re very pleased to add this latest deal to our expanding line-up of tape sales. Packed with all The Traitors’ trademark drama, intrigue and deception, Prime Video’s version has been an incredible success in India, where a second season is currently in production, and we can’t wait to see it debut in the UK. We’re proud to be the home of so many hit versions of this much-loved franchise. As well as watching their own territory’s local series, there is huge interest from fans in seeing multiple versions of the show, enabling them to dive into all the gripping twists and turns the game delivers from around the world.”
