RTVE has revealed the official trailer for Barrio Esperanza, its upcoming original fiction series produced in collaboration with Globomedia (THE MEDIAPRO STUDIO), set to premiere soon on La 1. Created by Iván Escobar and Antonio Sánchez Olivas, the series is positioned as a social comedy blending sharp humour with an uplifting, life-affirming tone. Set within a public primary school, Barrio Esperanza explores themes of education, coexistence and second chances, offering a grounded and human perspective on one of society’s most formative environments.
The newly released poster highlights the ensemble nature of the series while introducing its central character, Esperanza, played by Mariona Terés. The story follows a woman attempting to rebuild her life after a troubled past marked by poor decisions and personal setbacks. Having served time in prison, Esperanza uses her sentence to complete a teaching degree and successfully qualifies as a public school teacher. As she steps into her new role, she discovers that the lessons learned in prison prove more valuable than any academic syllabus.
The main cast also includes Alejo Sauras, Mariano Peña, Juan Vinuesa, Ana Jara, Laura de la Uz, Guillermo Campra, Carlos Librado “Nene”, Ángel Héctor and Ruth Núñez, forming a strong ensemble that reflects the show’s collective storytelling approach.
Children play a central role in the narrative, not merely as background characters but as key drivers of the story. Among them, Nayeli (played by Chloe con H), León (Tian Tosas) and Martina (Nia Tosas) stand out as pivotal figures, each representing different perspectives on childhood, friendship and personal growth, while significantly influencing both Esperanza’s journey and the broader dynamics of the neighbourhood.
Two additional characters are set to play a crucial role in Esperanza’s personal life: her mother Juana, portrayed by Carmen Balagué, and her ex-boyfriend Lucho, played by Javier Pereira. Their presence further deepens the emotional and relational layers of a protagonist whose past continues to shape her present.
Produced by Iván Escobar, Antonio Sánchez Olivas, Javier Méndez and María José Rodríguez, the eight-part series is directed by Sandra Gallego and Iñaki Peñafiel. The scripts, written by Escobar and Sánchez Olivas alongside Raquel Haro, Abraham Sastre, Marta Sánchez, Javier Reguilón, Raúl Díaz and Aurora Parrilla, were filmed entirely across various locations in the Madrid region.
